VBA CONNECTS VETERANS TO EMPLOYMENT

Wednesday 5 July 2023

Townsville Veterans and their families looking for work, or curious about future work opportunities, are being encouraged to attend the inaugural Oasis Career Connections Showcase happening on Wednesday 19 July at 4pm at The Oasis Townsville.

The Oasis Townsville, and their employment initiative the Veterans Business Alliance (VBA) and partnering organisation AiGroup will bring together a cohort of businesses that will directly connect with local Veteran families seeking employment.

The Chair of The Oasis Townsville LTGEN John Caligari, AO, DSC (Ret'd) said the VBA is a grouping of businesses that are either owned, managed or employ Veterans, many of them being Veterans themselves, know and appreciate the value of a loyal, disciplined, respectful worker who has lived the ADF experience.
“Unlike the usual employment expo, this event will support valuable conversations between employers and members of the Veteran community to ensure the best match of skills and aspirations,” Mr Caligari said.

This Career Connections Showcase is the first of a regular series to help Veterans and their partners more easily change careers. With brief presentations to assist in their employment journey along with the opportunity to speak directly to representatives of each VBA business.

"The Oasis Townsville's Employment and Education Program funded by the Queensland Government is building networks all over Australia with like-minded organisations and individuals to best support Veterans and partners transitioning from Townsville or choosing to come back to paradise,” Mr Caligari said.

This event brings together both sides of the employment equation - the employers who appreciate veterans, and those seeking to transition from one career to another. We know that a new job can be a major transition and we aim to make this as smooth as possible by opening doors and opportunities that are specific for the Veteran Community."

"Attending this Showcase is for those on a recon for a different future for them and their family by asking people they can trust. Anyone who considers themselves a part of the Veteran Community is welcome to attend our Career Connections event,” Mr Caligari said.
