Partnership to support future successes of veterans through education

Tuesday, 24 August 2021

CQUniversity has partnered with The Oasis Townsville in a bid to support the transitioning and future successes of veterans, through education.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and sponsorship agreement were signed between the two parties in Townsville today which aim to not only foster an ongoing relationship but that will allow CQU to provide veterans and their families and staff access to education, training and research capability across a wide range of disciplines.

The Oasis Townsville is a ‘single front door to all support services’ for former and current Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families who have begun the transition journey into civilian life.

CQUniversity Associate Vice-President (North Queensland Region) Professor Pierre Viljoen said he was delighted to enter into this agreement.

“CQUniversity shares a common mission with The Oasis Townsville to contribute to the economic and social prosperity of Townsville through supporting, empowering, and connecting with our veteran community,” Professor Viljoen said.

“We’re a civic-minded, flexible organisation that is also Australia’s most engaged University and we are thrilled to be able to support The Oasis Townsville through the sponsorship which includes the delivery of education,” Professor Viljoen said.

The Oasis Townsville Chairman John Caligari, AO, DSC said the partnership with CQUniversity was key to supporting members of the veteran community finding meaningful work.

“Central to the reintegration of veterans and their families into the workforce and community after service to their country is support for the attainment of skills and education and this partnership with CQUniversity will enable us to better prepare them for their next challenges,” Mr Caligari said.
