Celebrations as Veteran Hub Turns One

Wednesday 22 June 2022

The Oasis Townsville has spent the last year providing thousands of hours of activities and client services to the Veteran community, and on Saturday 25 June it’s opening its doors to the broader Townsville community to celebrate its 1st Anniversary.

The General Manager of The Oasis Townsville Angie Barsby said we’ve had a wonderful year in our first year of operations and today we are celebrating our 1st Anniversary Open Day with Veterans, their families and the Townsville community.

“We welcome everyone to come and enjoy the activities the day has to offer and learn more about The Oasis, a Home Base for Veterans” Mrs Barsby said.

“During this past year The Oasis has supported hundreds of transitioning Veterans and supported thousands of Veterans and spouses through the Social Connections program. The Open Day is another way to connect with community.”

“The Oasis is a welcoming place to connect with mates, meet new ones and to be amongst peers that understand ADF life and what it means to transition. You can learn more about this at the Open Day through the information displays and talking to The Oasis Townsville team members.”

The Oasis Townsville’s 1st Anniversary Open Day is a free event and will include a free sausage sizzle, animal farm, information displays, and performances from the 1RAR band and Dalriada Highland Dancers.

Mrs Barsby said this is a great opportunity for the community to get to know us, understand the important work we do with the Veteran community and that the general community is welcome to visit the facility and Dirty Boots Café.

A free family day full of activities and entertainment will take place at The Oasis Townsville, 1 Staging Camp Avenue Oonoonba in The Village on Saturday 25 June between 10am and 1pm.

We welcome the community to attend the event and more information is available on The Oasis Townsville Facebook page.
