CAREER CONNECTIONS: EMPOWERING VETERANS FOR SUCCESS

Monday, 27 November 2023

The eagerly awaited ‘2023 Career Connections Showcase’ is set to be a game-changer for Veterans and their families. Veterans Business Alliance (VBA), an initiative of The Oasis Townsville, and Regional Development Australia Townsville and North West Queensland (RDA), is offering a unique platform to explore an array of job opportunities, expand networks, and gain essential insights to secure their next careers.

Taking place on Wednesday 29 November at 5pm at The Oasis Townsville, this showcase goes beyond traditional job fairs. It's an exclusive opportunity for:

- Partners and Families of current serving ADF members
- Former serving members of the ADF and their families
- Transitioning members and their families

The event is supported and funded through The Growing Workforce Participation Fund which aims to develop partnership with industry to build longevity and sustainability in the workforce by empowering industry and employers to support jobseekers actively participating in the labour market.

General Manager of The Oasis Townsville, Angie Barsby, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The '2023 Career Connections Showcase’ underscores our unwavering dedication to the Veteran Community. We understand the unique challenges Veterans face when transitioning into civilian life, and we are here to provide the support they need."

Chair of The Oasis, Lieutenant General John Caligari AO, DSC stated “We appreciate very much the support we have received from RDA and members of the VBA who are local businesses and organisations that share our commitment to empowering Veterans because they recognise the strengths and benefits veterans bring to the workplace”.

The event brings Veterans face-to-face with VBA employers and business leaders dedicated to supporting the Veteran Community. In addition to job opportunities, attendees can gather key takeaways to equip them with the tools and knowledge required to secure their desired positions.

Mrs Barsby said this showcase is not merely a job expo; it's a platform for Veterans and Families to directly engage with Business Leaders who value their skills and experiences. It's a unique opportunity for our community to stand together and make a tangible difference in the lives of those who have made sacrifices and served our country in the Australian Defence Force.

“Our goal is for our Veterans and Families to leave the event not only with potential job leads but also with newfound confidence and a supportive network to thrive in their civilian careers,” Mrs Barsby said.

RDA CEO, Wayde Chiesa, reiterated the importance of this event, particularly in growing our regions workforce. “These initiatives and events are a great way to connect business and industry with a ready to go workforce within the veteran community transitioning or looking to transition to civilian roles. The event is an opportunity to provide support to both employers and the veteran community to ensure a successful outcome for both parties.”

To all Veterans, their families, and individuals connected to the ADF, save the date for Wednesday, 29 November at 5pm at The Oasis Townsville. This event promises to be a turning point in your career journey.
