What is your role in The Oasis Townsville?

I am the employment manager for The Oasis. I have been looking after veterans for over a decade trying to place them into meaningful employment locally and nationally.

Tell us about yourself

I am ex-Army and served for 25 years. I have operational service in Somalia and East Timor. I discharged in 2006 and commenced my employment with various companies. I have held numerous positions from Management to Trainer/Mentor and having my own business. In 2018 I decided to retire and focus on other passions one being veteran employment. I enjoy the stock market, gardening and travelling with my wife. I offer a degree of experience in the two areas of my careers Defence and Corporate and enjoy passing on that knowledge and learning from many I have met.

Why have you joined the team at The Oasis Townsville?

Joining The Oasis was easy for me because of the values the team have and the passion of trying help out our ADF family. Not all ex ADF members and their families travel well once discharged. The Oasis allows a bespoke approach to assist in the transition. The Oasis in my view also allows those who are not injured a voice as well, allowing them a sense of camaraderie second to none in other organisations.

What are you most proud of in your life?

Having all my family in the ADF. My wife joined when I was instructing at 1 RTB after we were married for 8 years (can’t beat them join them approach). My daughter enlisting to the RAAF and now working for a multi-national company. My son enlisting in the Navy and now working for cyber security. Serving with some of the best people in the Army from officers to diggers.

What’s the best fun you’ve had with family and/or friends?

Travelling Europe with our children when they were young. Catching up with our mates around the country.
