Tell us about yourself
I am blessed with a wonderful "big family" upbringing in country Victoria and in my late teens I moved to Townsville with my family . As a teenager I commenced my working life as a young apprentice chef at the well know Panorama House on Castle Hill.
I am one of 4 children to my hard-working parents who were business entrepreneurs, having many businesses including cattle farming, transport, and property development. This set me on a path of being a young business owner myself where I established my own catering company in Townsville in the 1990s.
I have raised three incredible children on my own; two ladies and one man who are now adults with their own careers and families. I am an active 'Nanny' to 4 delightful grandchildren (3 girls and 1 boy). Recently I became a full-time foster carer to 2 very active brothers (6 and 4 years old) who teach me resilience, strength, kindness, and compassion daily.
My career has evolved throughout my years from Chef to Early Educator/Preschool Teacher for 19 years then merging into coordinating Youth Programs and young offenders’ programs. I lived in Brisbane for a couple of years working as Area Manager in the Aged Care and Disability sectors, before returning to Townsville to be closer to my Children and Grandchildren.
I have been a volunteer in many organisations some of those being Dementia Australia and Alzheimer’s Australia events and fund raising, The Townsville Yacht Club Magnetic Island race week participant and volunteer, Red Cross emergency volunteer through Cyclone Yasi, Cyclone Larry, Victoria Bushfires, Canberra Bushfires. Leukaemia foundation, Relay for Life events. All very important organisations to me through lived experience with each of their causes.
Why have you joined the team at The Oasis Townsville?
I am passionate about working with an organisation that supports people to live their best life. The Oasis Townsville is an organisation that is making this happen.
What are you most proud of in your life?
My amazing children and grandchildren. My strength and resilience in overcoming adversity and finding new directions in life, taking risks, and using trauma as a springboard to unleash my best qualities and lead a happy life .
What’s the best fun you’ve had with family and/or friends?
Every day I get to see my family and friends is a gift. Road trips and camping holidays along the East coast of Australia, taking in everything this beautiful country of ours has to offer. With friend’s overseas travel adventures exploring parts of the world, we have never been before.
