Local builders step forward to construct
The Oasis Townsville
The construction of The Oasis Townsville hub for ex-Australian Defence Force personnel has reached another milestone, with the opening of the tender for the main works on the Oonoonba site.
Minister for Communities Coralee O’Rourke today (18 February) announced the tender would be open to the three Townsville-based construction companies - A Gabrielli Constructions; Paynters; and Woollam Constructions - who were shortlisted as select tenderers in the EOI process last year.
“All three of these local construction companies have the experience and expertise to deliver this vital project for the Townsville community,” Mrs O’Rourke said.
“We welcome their tender submissions and look forward to working with the successful tenderer on delivering The Oasis Townsville.
“This project will have a local focus – using local construction companies, to support around 26 full-time equivalent local jobs and boost the Townsville economy.
“The main works on site include refurbishing the existing building – and is the biggest undertaking of The Oasis Townsville project.”
The tender for the main works of The Oasis Townsville will close on 10 March 2020.
Construction on main works is anticipated to commence in late March.
Mrs O’Rourke said she was proud the Queensland Government was providing up to $4.3 million towards the first phase of The Oasis Townsville.
“We welcome the $5 million contribution from the Commonwealth Government,” she said.
“We are currently working on a project agreement with the Commonwealth, which we hope will be finalised in the coming weeks.”
Main works for The Oasis Townsville are anticipated to be completed by late July this year, with the service to begin operating and providing support to ex-ADF personnel shortly after.
