Veterans Grab Free Banjo Breaky

Thursday, 5 October 2023

The Oasis Townsville and Townsville RSL have joined forces to host a fortnightly complimentary breakfast for Veterans, enhancing community bonds and engagement within The Oasis’ dedicated BBQ space designed to unite Veterans.

This special collaboration extends a warm invitation to Veterans within our community. A gesture of deep appreciation for their service and dedication to our nation, offering a free bacon and egg banjo (muffin) paired with a freshly brewed cup of coffee. This tasty combination is not just a meal, it’s a symbol of gratitude and a means to foster camaraderie among our Veterans.

The Chair of The Oasis Townsville LTGEN John Caligari, AO, DSC (Ret'd) said it is great to have Townsville RSL onboard supporting a broad cross-section of Veterans at Banjos at our Homebase community in Townsville.

“Typically we have around 100 Veterans of all ages and genders join us. This is a great way to start the morning with a free a delicious breakfast and talk of lived service in the ADF and hear how others are tracking and tackling challenges,” Mr Caligari said.

Banjo Breaky’s are available to Veterans fortnightly on a Friday morning at The Oasis Townsville. This initiative goes beyond providing a meal, it is a platform for Veterans to share stories, experience, and support with their comrades in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

"We are developing a mutually supporting relationship with Townsville RSL and are grateful to President Wayne Preedy for the patronage of the RSL by the Townsville community to support Veterans at Banjos Breakfast," Mr Caligari said.

The President of Townsville RSL, Wayne Preedy said "we are thrilled to be partnering with The Oasis for this wonderful initiative. We are the two largest Veteran organisations in Townsville and look forward to more opportunities to work together with the Veteran community.

"Our Veterans have made incredible sacrifices for our nation, and this breakfast is a way for us to come together as a community and express gratitude in a meaningful way," Me Preedy said.

Mr Caligari said "we are looking forward to collaborating on future events alongside Townsville RSL, benefiting the Veteran community.

Veterans are encouraged to attend the upcoming Banjo Breaky on Friday 20 October, between 730am and 9am at The Oasis Townsville, 1 Staging Camp Avenue, Oonoonba.
