Veteran Partner to Compete in Half IronMan70.3, Raises funds for The Oasis Townsville

Friday 17 March 2023

Partner of a current serving Veteran, Ashlee Adams is riding the wave of extreme training as she prepares to compete in her very first Half IronMan, to raise funds for The Oasis Townsville.

Ms Adams said her training is testing her physically and mentally and can’t wait to compete.

“I have a great coach who’s helping me prepare for the 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike ride, and the final leg being a 21 km run. It’s going to be tough, but I’ll be happy if I can just make it through to the run, but finishing the race is the ultimate goal.

“As soon as I thought about competing in the Half IronMan70.3, I wanted to make the experience more meaningful by raising money for the Veteran Community.”

“It’s something close to my heart and The Oasis does such amazing work supporting Veterans and their families that it was an easy decision to make. The Oasis has been there when I needed them, and now I can do something to give back”, Ms Adams said.

The Oasis Townsville is a Homebase for Veterans and their families, providing services and connections events that support and bring the Veteran Community together.

The General Manager of The Oasis Townsville said, what Ms Adams is doing is simply amazing and we are very thankful to her for thinking of The Oasis. It’s so great to see a Veteran community member wanting to make a difference and support an organisation like The Oasis, through a personal challenge that creates a sense of purpose and accomplishment whilst improving health and wellbeing.

“The Oasis doesn’t generate any income from the services that we provide. We offer free support for Veterans and their families and therefore rely on fundraising, donations, sponsorships and grants to keep things tracking forward, and what a great event to support and get behind.

“The funds raised by Ms Adams will support further activities that create a connection within the Veteran community. Please show your support for Ms Adams by donating. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
“If there’s anyone else looking to fundraise to help support our mission, we’d love to hear from you, Mrs Barsby said.

The IronMan Challenge is taking place in Cairns on 18 June 2023, with the Half IronMan70.3 wave kicking off at 6am.

Donations are welcome on Ms Adam’s IronMan70.3 for The Oasis Townsville GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/ironman703-for-the-oasis-townsville) and follow her journey on The Oasis Townsville’s Facebook page.
