The Home Base for veterans in Townsville has already proved to be a highly sought-after destination for ex-defence service members and their families with huge numbers through the door.
A month on since opening, The Oasis Townsville, situated on Staging Camp Avenue in The Village at Oonoonba, has welcomed hundreds of visitors who have been accessing services and information available at the facility.

The Oasis Townsville Chair, Lieutenant General John Caligari said they were continuing to implement other programs aimed at supporting and connecting local veterans with the help and support they need.
“We are delighted by the number of people who have come through the facility since we opened just over a month ago,” Caligari said.

“It demonstrates to us that there is a large demand for a place for veterans and their families to come and find information and access support for their transition journey.
“Our team has been working tirelessly to connect with organisations that assist veterans including job transition programs, mental and physical health support and avenues for them to connect with the local community.

“We are also supporting a number of initiatives of organisations seeking to routinely utilise the spaces we have available and are continuing to design and develop other programs targeted at supporting veterans and their families though their entire transition journey.

“This facility is a huge leap forward for the veteran community in Townsville and provides a safe, welcoming and friendly place for veterans, their families and friends.

“It is great to see the defence community, including ex-service organisations, embrace it so quickly and it is already becoming known as the Home Base for veterans and their families.”
