Partnership for Travelling BBQ Trailer to Connect with Local Veterans

Wednesday 9 March 2022

SIXT has partnered with The Oasis Townsville to strengthen the local connection with existing and transitioning Veterans, through a travelling BBQ trailer.

SIXT will gift The Oasis Townsville the use of a hire vehicle to pull the travelling BBQ trailer throughout Townsville with the aim to connect with local Veterans and their families.

The General Manager of The Oasis Townsville said the vehicle and trailer will enable us to connect with more Veterans throughout Townsville and open up another pathway into the Oasis.

“This is a wonderful initiative from our connections program team that will enable Veterans to have even more ways to connect with our services. It all starts with a conversation and the BBQ trailer will offer an opportunity to socially connect, meet and talk with current serving and transitioning Veterans.

“The BBQ only takes two minutes to set up and we envision the trailer attending community events, open days, council activities, and all the places where Veterans might be”. Mrs Barsby said.

SIXT a local rent a car business jumped on board to assist when The Oasis Townsville made contact.
General Manager of SIXT George Gatis said Townsville is the largest garrison city in Australia and our community is filled with Veterans and their families, and we wanted to be part of that.

“It was a natural fit for us to provide a Ute for the BBQ trailer to travel around Townsville and in the Veteran community”, Mr Gatis said.

“By continuing to be out and about in the community, will help to spread the word that The Oasis Townsville is here to support Veterans and their families. It doesn’t matter where they are in their transition journey, whether that be just starting the transitioning process, or having been discharged for a while, we can help,” Mrs Barsby said.

The Oasis Townsville is a home base for the Veteran community and assist with life planning, promoting strong social connections, supporting wellbeing, linking to education and training and helping to find employment.
