Event signals arrival of veterans’ home base

Saturday, 16 October 2021

Almost 2,000 people turned up to celebrate the grand launch of Townsville’s Home Base for the Veteran Community.

The Oasis Townsville Chair, Lieutenant John Caligari said he was overwhelmed by the support received from the community at the event.
“While we have been operating at our new facility at The Village since June, the grand launch really signals our arrival as an organisation that will be part of the fabric of the community for the long-term,” Caligari said.

“The event was an outstanding success and provided us with an opportunity to thank all those who have helped and supported us along the way and to showcase to the wider Townsville community what we do.
“This includes all of those Ex-Service Organisations, politicians, businesses, community and importantly, veterans and their families, who have played a vital role in helping to make this facility a reality.

“We will continue to grow as more and more members of our veteran community understand how we can help them and their families whether they are only just thinking about their transition or have been out of the ADF for many years.

“Our objective is to support the economic and social prosperity of Townsville by helping veterans feel safe and valued in the Townsville community.”
