Banjo Breaky Brings Veteran Community Together

Thursday, 7 April 2022

Current serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) members are being
invited to attend a Banjo Breaky to strengthen the connections within the Veteran
community this Friday at The Oasis Townsville from 730am to 9am.

The Chair of The Oasis Townsville LTGEN John Caligari, AO, DSC (Ret'd) said this
is just one of the many activities we run within our Connections Program to ensure
that our Veteran community stays connected.

“A coffee brew and a bacon and egg banjo (English muffin) with a mate first thing in
the morning, before the working day commences is a positive way to start the day”
Mr Caligari said.

“It’s a very informal gathering that enables mates to catch up, or to find new mates.
We are running these Banjo Breaky’s every fortnight to assist in keeping the
connections going.

“The Oasis provides a safe and welcoming place for people to come and connect
and we hope to see many familiar and new faces attend.”

Our Connections Program run a variety of free activities each month that includes
the Banjo Breaky, meditation classes, scuba diving, abseiling, yoga and more.

Mr Caligari said finding the right connection activity for someone is important and the
Banjo Breaky is a great starting point for someone to get to know us.

“We are encouraging all those who have transitioned, are transitioning or still serving
in the ADF to come along, bring a mate if they like and have breaky with us.

The free Banjo Breaky includes a bacon and egg muffin cooked fresh off the BBQ
and a coffee brew from Dirty Boots Café. The Oasis is located at 1 Staging Camp
Avenue, Oonoonba.
