Meaningful work is the conduct of activity which provides one with positive personal affect and identity. This activity is seen as contributing to society and there is very little compulsion or unpleasantness connected to its performance. It can be paid employment (working for another), self-employment (working for oneself) or volunteering (contributing to a cause without payment).
