Here's the Procedure...
Thank you once again for your interest in becoming a Wellbeing Advocate with The Oasis Townsville. We now have a pathway for training though Advocacy Training and Development Program (ATDP). We acknowledge that you have a great deal of experience and that you will bring a lot to The Oasis Townsville and we look forward to working with you to complete the training.
Please complete the following steps to commence Wellbeing Advocacy training.
If you do not already have one you will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). The USI is a reference number made up of ten numbers and letters that:
creates a secure online record of your recognised training and qualifications gained in Australia, from all training providers you undertake recognised training with,
will give you access to your training records and transcripts,
can be accessed online, anytime and anywhere,
is free and easy to create, and
stays with you for life.
Please log on and obtain a Unique Student Identifier
Once you have your USI, you will need to nominate to undertake ATDP training. Please log onto the ATDP Home page
When you go to the Nomination Form – Click on “Locate your ESO” – then click on “Veteran’s Centre (Un-aligned)” – Click on “ Qld” and you will be able to find “The Oasis” in the drop Down List.
Nominate a person for training or RPL (Nominating ESO is The Oasis Townsville and Mentor will be Lynne Foster (preferred name Floss, , m.0420 498286)).
You will be given access to a Work Experience Log which you can begin work on immediately. Please notify Floss when you have completed a task so she is able to complete the Mentor section so you can move onto the next task. Once you commence your log you should be log onto the DVA Train, if you don’t get automatically logged on, then let Floss know.
The blue card system is a key prevention and monitoring system of people working with children and young people in Queensland. While you will predominately be working with veterans, there is a chance that you may need to indirectly provide support to the veteran's family including children, and therefore it is beneficial to have a blue card. Please apply for a blue card through the Blue Card Service homepage. Please provide a scanned copy of the card for our records.
In the relevant activity question select - health, counseling and support services option.
If you already have a blue card please provide a scanned copy of the card for our records.
Please provide a Statutory Declaration in relation to any past offences even if you do not have any. Please note, The Oasis Townsville reserves the right to ask for a National Police check if required.
Alternatively if you have a recent (within the last 12 months) National Police check please provide a scanned copy for our records.
It is recommended, but not a compulsory part of the training, that you complete the Welfare module to give you an understanding of the welfare side of advocacy. The Oasis requires the completion of suicide prevention training. You can either complete SAFEtalk (1 Day) or the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASSIST) (2 days). If you have not already done either training previously we are recommending that you nominate for the training offered free by Open Arms (previously Veterans and Veterans Family Counseling Service (VVCS)). There should be more training available through Open Arms in the new year.
If you have completed another suicide prevention training course, please provide details and we will determine with ATDP if that meets the requirement
